Accessibility Declaration

About this declaration

Magdalena Małagowska — Garden of English is committed to ensuring the accessibility of its website in accordance with the international WCAG 2.1 standard at the AA level. This declaration applies to the gardenofenglish.pl website.

Date of publication of the declaration: 26 April 2026
Date of last review: 26 April 2026

Compliance status

The site is largely compliant with the WCAG 2.1 AA guidelines. The following solutions have been implemented:

  • Semantic structure — correct heading hierarchy (h1 → h2 → h3), navigation elements (<nav>, <main>, <header>, <footer>) with appropriate roles and labels
  • Skip navigation — a “Skip to content” link allows users to jump directly to the main content
  • Keyboard — all site features are operable via the keyboard: menu navigation, opening submenus, forms, language switcher, accessibility panel
  • Visible focus indicator — a consistent outline appears on every element activated by keyboard
  • Text contrast — all text reaches a contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1 against the background; headings and emphasized text reach at least 7:1
  • Language attribute — the page dynamically sets lang=”pl” or lang=”en” depending on the language version
  • Images — all functional illustrations have alternative descriptions (alt); decorative images are hidden from screen readers
  • Animations — the site respects the system “Reduce motion” setting (prefers-reduced-motion); animations can also be paused on hover or focus
  • Text enlargement — the site allows zooming up to 200% without loss of functionality
  • Contact form — fields have labels, required fields are marked, and error messages are announced to screen readers

Assistive features — accessibility panel

In the bottom-right corner of every page there is an accessibility panel button (a person icon). Clicking it opens a panel with the following options:

  • Text size — three scaling levels (90%, 100%, 120%)
  • Color modes:
    • Monochrome (grayscale)
    • Inverted colors
    • Dark contrast (black background, white text, yellow accents)
    • Low saturation
  • Content scaling — four levels (90%, 100%, 110%, 125%)
  • Restore defaults — reset all settings

Selected preferences are stored locally in the browser and apply on subsequent visits.

Keyboard shortcuts

  • Tab / Shift+Tab — move between page elements
  • Enter / Space — activate buttons and links
  • Esc — close an open mobile menu, submenu or accessibility panel
  • Arrow keys — move the testimonials carousel (when focused)

The site also supports native browser features:

  • Ctrl/Cmd + + — zoom in
  • Ctrl/Cmd + − — zoom out
  • Ctrl/Cmd + 0 — restore default size

Known limitations

Despite our best efforts, individual elements on the site may not be fully compliant with WCAG 2.1 AA:

  • Content embedded from external sources (e.g. Google Maps, the contact form in its default version) is provided by third parties and its accessibility may be independent of this site
  • Some archival images may have generic or shortened alternative descriptions — we are working on improving them
  • The “inverted colors” mode may, in some places, affect the readability of decorative elements — if needed, we recommend using system color filters (macOS, Windows)

Preparation of the declaration

The declaration was prepared on the basis of a self-assessment carried out by the Garden of English team with the participation of an AI technical assistant. The following were used during the compliance review:

  • Automated audit with Lighthouse (Chrome DevTools)
  • Scanning with the axe DevTools tool
  • Manual keyboard navigation (without using a mouse)
  • Verification with system screen readers (VoiceOver / NVDA — selectively)
  • 200% text zoom test in the browser
